Yamaha Raptor YFM 700R SE3 Review
The Yamaha Raptor YFM 700R SE3 special edition (2008 model) is a large capacity, (686cc), road legal quad. It's a powerful machine - 38.7bhp @ 6500rpm - so it's a bike for the more experienced rider. The engine is a liquid -cooled single cylinder 4-stroke with a 5-speed gearbox. Available in red and white, it has a hybrid, alloy and steel chassis, making it agile off-road, but solid on the highway.
For the Yamaha owner, the Raptor YFM700R comes with a good selection of accessories. There are a range of upgrades available for the rider with cash to spare, the most significant being a DMC twin-outlet exhaust. This produces a little more torque, allowing the engine to rev more freely than the standard item. For those who value such additions, it also produces a more aggressive sound.
You may want to replace original parts or add accessories such as Renthal Fatbars, Goldspeed Silver tyres, black Motosport Alloys, Pro Armor Dominator Bumper, Pro Armor Fat Peg and Heel Guard and Spider Grips. The additions not only give the bike that extra edge, but also look fantastic.
The fuel-injected single-cylinder four-stroke is more than capable and can take the novice by surprise, as can the three floating-caliper brakes. They are efficient, if sudden. Be prepared. They need to be handled with care. This is not a machine you want to let out of your control, either in the dirt, or on the road.
On the tarmac the oil-damped Elka TT dual rate suspension affords a smooth ride, the rear monoshock soaking up the bumps with equal efficiency. Pro-Tech alloy wheel spacers extend the width of the bike; an improvement that pays off on the road and when going off road. At high speed it feels stable, though in the turns it does need a little extra effort in the early stages.
Off road, the Yamaha Raptor is a powerful, satisfying quad bike, more than able to tackle rough terrain. It responds efficiently and is powerful enough to get you out of most tight spots.
All in all, the Yamaha Raptor YFM700R SE3 is an excellent all-rounder for the more experienced rider. It is a very powerful Yamaha sport ATV that looks good, handles well, gives good value for money and is as much fun on the road as it is off road.
